About Rice Military
Rice Military is located inside the 610 Loop and is next to Memorial Park. This neighborhood consists mainly of new construction townhomes and is known best for its great proximity to Downtown Houston, Memorial Park, and the Washington Corridor. The Galleria area, the 610 Loop and Interstate 10 are all within easy reach of Rice Military. The boundaries for this neighborhood are Washington Avenue on the north, Memorial Dr. on the south, Shepherd Dr. on the east and Westcott St. on the west.
The area was named "Rice" as the people who originally owned the land were members of the Rice family which included William Marsh Rice. Mr. Rice founded the Rice Institute, now renamed as Rice University. The term "Military" is a reference to the neighborhood's bordering of what was once Camp Logan, a World War I-era U. S. Army training camp. The north boundary of Washington Ave runs approximately three miles and is sometimes referred to as the Washington Corridor.
ROC has built many new homes in Rice Military that have helped in the transformation of this unique Houston neighborhood. The Rice Military area is steadily changing from a busy thoroughfare to an urban area with tons of new construction, from great new restaurants, small cafes, and corner bars to comfy coffee shops and hip new wine bars.
